As I browse through a list of what are considered 'Blogosphere Political Pundits' I find homepage descriptions such as, "I've been writing about Politics for 3 years in local newspapers...", "I am 30 years old and have always been interested in Politics...", "About me, a Politics and Pop Culture Junkie...", and finally, "I spend most of my time writing on Social Media sites..."
Wow! Did I say Wow!
I have been learning through the process of blogging that what constitutes quantitative content does not necessarily mean quality content and it seems to me a great disservice to people that have any lengthy background in the political events of the last 30 years. Comparatively I started watching, learning and reading about Politics back when was I in college and Richard Nixon was the president. Much occurred during his office as some people may remember, such as a little issue called Watergate. I didn't really pay all that much attention to political party back in those days, more so I followed the people. However, the Watergate issue left a bad taste in most American's mouths and my very first vote ever cast was for Democrat Jimmy Carter. I soon learned as much as you know about the Candidate as a person is simply not enough; you must know the direction of the party to understand how and where they will lead. Jimmy surely was a lesson learned. Ronald Reagan really brought me back to reality and I became very cautious with the Democratic direction every since.
I have a great understanding and respect for John F. Kennedy having virtually read every writing he has ever published that I have found. He displayed what I feel were the very purest and basic qualities of a great leader; probably one of the greatest leaders of our time. Although he was a Democrat and therefore held some of those ideals I disagree with, he had the ability to move millions of people with his stirring orations and he often voted against his party when he felt it was not in the best interests of the people he led. I still have a Vinyl Record we used to call an LP Album of his speeches that I occasionally whip out the old turn table and play to remind myself of what the Democrats used to stand for. While some had liberal ideas the Democrats once stood for the same principles that the framers had; the basis this country was built upon Freedom and Justice for all.
People my middle-age 50 something have seen the world turn, the tides roll and the Political Parties morph into wussy, whiney, try to please everyone while pleasing no one group of election whores. Votes and money are their sustenance. I want people of Principles, Ethics, Sound Judgment and the ability to make decisions, even if they are hard ones, based on representing the people that put them there. I want political opinions from those who've seen more of the US than the last few years of a paralyzed, politically correct, politicized, polarized America. It's pretty hard to accept someone as a pundit who has only had the ability to vote in the last 2 or 3 elections at most.
Charles Krauthammer, Michael Barone move over the Political Pundits of Blogosphere 2009 are taking on the world. /sarcasm off.
